Originally settled by the Secatogue Indians, the land which is known as West Islip was purchased around 1683  by William Nicoll who became the first patentee of Islip when he purchased land from Sachem (Chief) Winnequaheagh of Connetquot. He named his land Islip Grange, in honor of the town from which he emigrated: Islip, England.  

In honor of the establishment of what is known as Islip today, and paying homage to both the Secatogue Indians, Nicoll and the Willetts family, 

1683 Sports Bar & Grille was born.
